Pressure Vessel Design In South Africa
Pressure vessels are a vital component in many industries such as the oil & gas industry, the energy industry, the food processing industry, and the fertilizer industry, to list just a few. DonTech Engineering Specialists can produce pressure vessel designs for all these industries. Pressure vessels are often used in high pressure and high-temperature applications which can result in a high level of danger and risk for employees, the business, and the environment, if not done correctly. For this reason, pressure vessels are required to be designed in accordance with an accepted design standard and signed off by a registered Professional Engineer as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Benefits Of Using DonTech
Our pressure vessel designs are in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act in South Africa.
We have experience with sizing and designing various pressure vessels. Even if you only have a concept or a sketch, we can design the vessel accordingly and provide a set of drawings for the vessel to be fabricated. Get in touch with us regarding your requirements, and we will contact you for further information that may be needed to design your pressure vessel.
Not only do we design pressure vessels made from common materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium, but also high nickel alloys such as inconel. Although we do not fabricate the pressure vessels ourselves, we are linked to reputable pressure vessel manufacturers and can manage the manufacturing process for you, if required.
Our pressure vessel designs are in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act in South Africa. This means that your vessels will be categorised in accordance with the South African National Standard (SANS) 347 regarding the categorisation and conformity assessment criteria for all pressure equipment. This categorisation involves determining the hazard category of the pressure vessel based on the process fluid, the operating pressure, and the volume of the vessel. This is a requirement by law. Once DonTech has categorised your pressure vessel, we will design your pressure vessel in accordance with either American Standards (ASME) or British Standards (BS). If you are not sure which standard is appropriate, we can guide you.
The Occupational Health and Safety Act and the relevant South African National Standards require all pressure vessels with a hazard category group II and higher to be approved for compliance with the national requirements by an appropriately registered professional person. Even if you have sourced a manufacturer for your pressure vessel, you still need an independent approval of the design in accordance with South African National Standards.
DonTech Engineering Specialists offer this service. We will provide a professionally registered Mechanical Engineer to independently assess the design of your pressure vessel and either provide approval or advise on changes needed. This not only ensures peace of mind that your pressure equipment is compliant, but also ensures that the safety of your employees and business is not compromised.
If you select DonTech Engineering Specialists to design your pressure vessel, we can also offer drawings of the pressure vessels. Our standard drawings are 2D, however, should you require a 3D drawing, this service can also be provided. It is good practice to have drawings of your pressure equipment for statutory inspections and repairs. These drawings can be submitted to pressure vessel manufacturers to ensure correct manufacture.
