Detailed Design

Regardless of the size of your planned installation, DonTech Engineering Specialists can provide detailed designs for your tanks and bunding. We use two standards for design based on the size of the tank. For tanks less than 85m3 in volume, we design according to the South African National Standard (SANS) 10131 for above-ground storage tanks for petroleum products. For larger tanks, we use the American Petroleum Industry (API) 650 standard for the design of welded tanks. Many tanks, depending on the products they store, require a form of bunding around them to contain spills. In many cases, the bunding is made from concrete. DonTech designs bunding in accordance with the SANS 10089-1 which guides designers on the layout for above-ground bulk storage installations. Even if you only know the volume that you would like your tank(s) to have, that is sufficient for us to proceed with the design. Our designs include detailed drawings which allow our clients to visualise the installation and request changes to the design to suit the site. The drawings can also be used by the tank manufacturer to ensure the tank(s) are built in accordance with the design. Our designs all come with sign off by a professionally registered Mechanical Engineer.

Independent Approval & Risk Assessments

Companies may require independent approval of their storage tank design by a professionally registered Mechanical Engineer. Even if DonTech Engineering Specialists have not done the design, we are able to review and either provide approval or advise on any required changes to ensure the design complies with the relevant standards. The South African National Standards require all storage tank designs to be approved by a professionally registered engineer. This not only ensures peace of mind that your tanks are compliant but also ensures that the safety of your employees and business is not compromised.
